culture under modernism and post-modernism

In the class this week, we discussed and analysised the pop culture's origin, the differences and the connection under the Modernism and Postmodernism. I think although we mainly focus on the pop culture in our class, the social and historical background in different age of human society is really important to our topic all the time. If we ignored each historical age's background and characters, it is really hard to understand the different culture and value in the different age. For the Modern pop culture, it grew up under an age which material civilization had been rapidly developing. In this age, people try to conquer the nature but not worship it as what they did for past thousand years. It was a transform time for human history and society no matter from which historical point to view. The culture under this age was full of the independent, cubic, and abstract factors. They believe the human culture should no longer dependent on history or old cultural conception. In this new age, the Western world use its absolute preponderant technologies and sciences to transform to its cultural influence to the world. Under this age, the pop culture became more anti-traditional, westernized and abstract. Since 1960s, the postmodernism started to come on the global cultural stage. In this new age, people more care about individual needs, feeling and value. The culture in this age no longer excessively believe sciences could solve all the confusion and questions in human society and lives. They mainly encourage people to follow their own value and believe to be who they are. Under this culture, people do not follow or obey any unchanged concept or culture. The pop culture itself is create and develop by people. In here, the people include every culture, group, religion, philosophy, and so on.
